Michelle Vogel
Michelle Vogel is a founding member of Washington Strategic Consulting. Michelle has nearly 20 years of experience working in Washington and currently provides government affairs counsel to WSC clients in the areas of federal regulatory and reimbursement processes, patient advocacy, disability reform, and other health policy issues. She works closely with Congress and the various Executive Branch Departments and agencies on issues of importance to a broad array of health care interests.
Michelle has testified before Congress and Federal Government Agencies and given presentations before patient organizations, provider groups, and medical societies on topics, such as: Medicare Reimbursement, the Economics of the Plasma Industry, Access to Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG), Federalizing Newborn Screening, Revising Social Security Benefits, Navigating through Health Insurance, and Becoming Your Own Advocate.
Michelle was the Vice President of Government Affairs and Reimbursement Services at the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF). As Vice President of IDF, Michelle worked with patients, health care providers, pharmaceutical companies, and medical societies on issues affecting the community. Additionally, she worked closely with Congress, HHS, CDC, CMS, FDA, and SSA on Medicare reimbursement issues, newborn screening, disability reform and drug safety issues.
Michelle started her career working for former Congressman Benjamin Gilman (R-NY), Chairman of the International Affairs Committee for over six years. During her tenure at former Congressman Gilman's office, Michelle served as Senior Legislative Assistant advising and representing the Congressman on a variety of policy issues including: domestic/international health care, appropriations, social security, education, labor, veteran's affairs, environment, banking, and transportation.
In additional, Michelle served as the Federal Liaison for the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services. Her responsibilities included maintaining liaison with federal officials to inform them of the Department's policy and program concerns, establishing and revising legislation, lobbying for federal funds for state health care programs, and identifying emerging federal issues.
Michelle also has over eight years experience working for two DC lobbying firms as a Senior Associate representing academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, blood centers, and health insurance companies. Some of her clients have included: University of Virginia, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, University of Miami, Milwaukee Children's Hospital, Sylvester Cancer Hospital, and Milwaukee Blood Center. Additionally, she has developed close working relationships with key staff members of congressional committees and delegations, health associations and coalitions, and has worked closely with all of the federal agencies that have jurisdiction over health care issues.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Communications from The American University, and a Masters in Public Administration from The George Washington University.
